What this site does
Antarctica Cruise Reviews aggregates publicly available traveler ratings from Google Maps alongside editorial analysis of recurring review patterns across operators. Each operator profile combines a verified Google Maps rating, a curated sample of traveler reviews scoring 3 stars or higher in English, and an editorial summary describing consistent patterns across that operator's broader review set.
The comparison covers ten operators across the small-ship and larger expedition cruise segments: Poseidon Expeditions, Aurora Expeditions, Oceanwide Expeditions, Lindblad Expeditions, Quark Expeditions, Ponant, Silversea Cruises, Hurtigruten, Holland America Line, and Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours. Operators are compared against consistent criteria — ship capacity, Google Maps rating, landing style, and IAATO membership status — so readers can evaluate options on the same terms.
How the data is collected
Ratings and review samples are sourced from each operator's verified Google Business listing via the Google Places API. This data is third-party sourced — the ratings on this site reflect Google Maps traveler feedback, not ratings calculated independently by this site's editorial team. Each operator's review count is disclosed alongside its rating, since a 4.8★ rating from 575 reviews carries different statistical weight than a 5.0★ rating from 13 reviews.
Review samples are filtered to include only reviews rated 3 stars or higher, written in English, and verified by Google as tied to a real account. Reviews below this threshold are excluded from the displayed sample but are reflected in the editorial summary for each operator — so an operator with predominantly negative reviews will show this honestly in its summary text.
What this site does not do
This site does not conduct first-hand trip reviews, does not send staff on expedition voyages, and does not independently verify claims made within individual traveler reviews beyond Google's own verification system. Readers seeking first-hand trip reports should consult primary sources such as Cruise Critic or individual travel blogs in addition to this aggregated comparison.
This site does not accept payment from any operator in exchange for placement, rating, or favorable coverage. No operator has paid for any position in the comparison or for any aspect of its profile. See the Editorial Policy for the full independence statement.
Why Antarctica cruise comparisons are useful
Antarctica expedition cruises represent a significant investment — most itineraries range from $8,000 to $25,000+ per person. The operators available vary substantially in ship size (from 114 passengers to over 1,000), landing style (group rotation vs. all-ashore simultaneously), IAATO membership, and onboard experience. The review landscape is fragmented: Google Maps, TripAdvisor, Cruise Critic, and individual blogs each cover different operator subsets with no consistent comparison framework. This site exists to provide that framework in one place.
Update schedule
Google Maps rating data is refreshed periodically via the API and reflected in the live rating display on each operator card. Editorial summaries are reviewed when an operator's review pattern shifts meaningfully. The "Last Updated" date at the bottom of the homepage reflects the most recent data refresh.
Corrections: If you identify a factual error in any operator profile — incorrect ship capacity, incorrect IAATO status, or a misattributed review — please contact the editorial team at editorial@antarctica-cruise-reviews.com. Corrections are reviewed within 5–10 business days.
